Author Jim Marcacci will be here to discuss his new book, Benld and the Booze Gang: Mafia, Murder, and Mayhem on Rt. 66 – a true account of Benld’s hidden connections to the Mafia throughout Prohibition.
Jim explains, “What many people don’t realize is that this story reaches far beyond Benld. During Prohibition, communities across Macoupin County — and much of central Illinois — were tied into the same secret network of bootlegging, production, and distribution. Towns we all know today played a role in a history that’s been buried for nearly a century.”
Books will be available for purchase during the program.
