Silk Stocking District

The Silk Stocking District

East Main Street was once known as the “Silk Stocking District” because it was the home of Carlinville’s wealthy professional class. Merchants, bankers, doctors, and lawyers lived in the beautiful Victoria houses and stately Federals which line East Main Street.  This district has been on the National register of Historic Places since 1976 and was later known as “Millionaire Row”.  These homes are privately owned.
